"The Way You Are" - Elle Taiwan

These images from the July Elle Taiwan capture gritty California style: acid-washed jeans, lace-up sneakers, itty-bitty hot pants, tousled hair. Mix in the graffiti and skateboards and I'm sold. In general, I root for the sporty-downtown-cool-chick type in magazine spreads and lookbooks versus the pretty-polished-stiletto-wearing-woman. These kinds of styles seem effortless and not overly calculated (I think the model above is even sporting a candy necklace), which is why I love them.

"Sitting Pretty" - Twin Magazine S/S

I think almost everything is better with a shot of casualness - a pair of Chucks with a dress, a tee with a pencil skirt, slouchy pants with a button up. Shot by Amy Troost and styled by Joanna Schlenzka, this editorial embodies that nonchalance. There's not a stiletto in sight, which makes me admire each look even more, and I could totally wear any (kay, minus the sheer top) of these outfits. Check out the rest of the Twin Magazine spread here.

"High Plains Drifter" - British Vogue

This vibrant spread from British Vogue could substitute an energy drink. The neon brights, ginormous mixed plastic jewelry, and punchy prints (styled by Lucinda Chambers), all against a subdued desert, bring to mind a techno tribal look. The shots were photographed by Mario Testino, and you can see more here.

"Paper Plates" - British Vogue

This spread from British Vogue's June issue plays with Olympic athleticism on a muted yet whimsical set. Charlotte Pilcher's selection of chiffons, pastels, and sweet embroidery brings femininity to spandex-and-sneakers territory.

"Neon Deluxe" - Dazed & Confused Korea

This editorial from the March issue of Korean Dazed & Confused shows off hyper-pigmented makeup alongside retro pieces from designers like Prada and Louis Vuitton.  Each look is a little undone, and I love the composition of the shots, with strong shapes created by pool toys, big sunglasses, and bunny masks.

"Eternal Optimism" - Vogue US

The March issue of Vogue had several editorials I was blown away by, including this one. The first thing that really caught my attention was the mixed media feel, with models posing against illustrated and painted backdrops - it kind of conjures a stage performance look, doesn't it? The very on-trend feminine sixties-inspired clothes also make it feel a little like dressing as a character, because in today's world, clothes like these seem like a nod to a simpler time.

"Jewelry Princess" - Please Magazine

This spread from the Spring/Summer issue of Please Magazine features accessories styled impeccably by Karina Givargisoff, and modelled by Anne Sophie Monrad (photographed by Nagi Sakai). Chunky jewelry gets a youthful and slightly whimsical treatment, and Anne Sophie's lack of princess properness (it is "The Little Princess Issue," after all) injects some nonchalance I can totally appreciate. See more photos from the editorial here.
