I Think I Love You

Chambray shirts are a dime a dozen these days and are now considered a wardrobe staple. I like this version from Free People for its woven patches adorning the pockets, sleeves, and back yoke. The casual southwestern-ish style could be played up with shorts and boots in the summer, and this shirt could be layered and worn with pants or a thick maxi skirt in cold weather. This button-down could even be an amazing topper for a feminine dress, acting sort of like a lightweight jacket. This versatility is exactly why chambray shirts are a staple - this one just has extra personality.

I really want this sweater from the Creatures of the Wind for J.Crew collab. Even with how simple they are, I could never get sick of striped tops - but the colors and shapes on this one makes it even better. It feels a little '70s-retro, and it could be worn with denim shorts during the summer or with a coat and long-sleeved tee underneath in the colder months. And, as styled in the above shot, it completely brightens up a conservative button-up.

I'm loving this beaded bikini by Mara Hoffman. The bustier top provides a little more coverage and support than a string bikini, and the conservative navy is contrasted by bright and festive beading. Though there's nothing wrong with the traditional solid suit or tropical print at the beach, this bikini will surely stand out.

I don't think it's possible to wear this Presley Skye wrap dress (find it at Nordstrom) and not be happy. The sweet silhouette and polka dots are a little retro, but the bright ombre pastels are a refreshing twist. This easy-breezy silk number is perfect for spring and summer weather, and could go daytime office with basic flats and a sturdy bag or boardwalk-ready with espadrilles and sunglasses.

These perforated Matiko loafers from Need Supply are just light enough for the summer heat without being another pair of flimsy sandals. The sky blue shade is very on-trend, and these would look perfect with your favorite airy sundress or denim shorts.

These boots from Aldo are really speaking to my summer-bohemian-southern-whatever side right now.  These are not too cowboy, but just country enough to refresh me from my typical city-inspired uniform, and they come in seven different colors so I can be as casual (cognac, black) or crazy (light pink anyone?) as I wish.

I'm generally very open-minded when it comes to clothes, but one thing I've never liked much is paisley. I can't help but associate it with a cheap hippie Halloween costume. However, H&M applied the design to this cute bubblegum-colored frock, and I'm smitten. It looks perfect for the warm weather months ahead, and on cool days this could be paired with a chunky knit cardigan and some booties.

This embroidered Theyskens' Theory jacket is worthy of a jaw drop. The assorted sequins and beads are applied so perfectly, in some areas resembling ice crystals and in others looking like a delicate composition of space rock. This jacket has so much detail, yet looks so light.



Vlieger & Vandam's Guardian Angel Bags

If It's Hip, It's Here

Should I hate these? I feel like I should hate these, but I don't. The Amsterdam based accessories label Vlieger & Vandam has been making these weapon embossed clutches and handbags for several years now, starting with wool and now using more luxe leathers (I myself would still love one of those wool ones). These feel nearly illegal, which is surely part of the bags' appeal with celebrities like Rihanna, and though I lean sort of anti-gun,  I love the marriage of street and sophistication.

Bona Drag

I love Pamela Love's edgy jewelry, but these earrings are probably my favorite item she's made so far. I spotted these in her Fall 2011 lookbook a while back, and didn't see them for sale until just recently. The formation of the spikes reminds me of Native American garb, yet they are completely downtown punk at the same time.



Nick Campbell Eyewear

The Australian eyewear label Nick Campbell borrows shapes from the fifties and sixties for its classic, easy-to-wear sunglasses. I'm in love with the specs with the "Cookies and Cream" frames. The glasses are handmade and have a lifetime quality guarantee, and there are a couple styles for tintless prescription glasses as well. See more here (click).

I love a good t-shirt: nothing to adjust or tug at, nothing drapey to worry about, nothing too tight (ideally), and can be worn so many ways. I also love a t-shirt with a twist, like the one above from Topshop. And, I love that the twist has a twist. Twist 1: this is a lace tee, not your average cotton American Apparel variety. Twist 2: this lace isn't your typical girly lace, but grid-like, geometric lace. It's cute, but interesting and modern, and I'd love this with jeans and moto boots, a feminine A-line skirt and ballet flats, or worn to work with a pencil skirt and oxford heels.

See-through bags are sometimes just a security requirement, but this badass cage purse is amazing (actually, with all that metal, you may have trouble getting through security). The bag is by Anndra Neen, who makes similarly tough jewelry as well.

Origami Jewellery

Parisian duo Claire and Arnaud of Origami Jewellery started making Japanese origami-inspired pieces in 2008.  They originally made their jewelry out of paper and thread, but quickly realized the shapes they were creating would translate well using gold and silver. Now, with plenty of critters, as well as other 3-D shapes (I love those cufflinks, above), the line can be purchased at Boticca.com, available in limited quantities.

First came red jeans, then a whole slew of other shades for your legs (I'm looking to buy a pair of teal green and a pair of purple skinnies soon!), so next comes prints, right? I love these Calla for April 77 skinny jeans (available at ASOS), in a bleach-washed spacey print. Pair these pants with a black tee or white button up partially tucked in.

Honest By campaign

A new clothing e-commerce website, Honest By (honestby.com) takes the guessing out of purchasing a new sweater or pair of pants. The pieces sold on Honest By each come with full disclosure on how the item was made, the price of labor and materials, every detail of where the materials came from (yes, even the sewing thread and little size tag), and who had any role in constructing the garment. It even tells you how much time was spent ironing the item when making it. Uh, I didn't know I wanted to know that, but sure!

Having any details of how something is made is a foreign concept these days, where we question if there are toxic chemicals in toys, or if the individual who constructed a handbag was working in inhumane conditions. Could this catch on and be the new organic?
