The Water Tank Project is a project using public art to get New Yorkers to think twice about the water we waste. The organization Word Above the Street is behind the initiative, where NYC's iconic rooftop water tanks will be covered in artwork. The project is not expected to go into motion until spring of next year, but donations are being accepted now. Find out more here.

Music from NY Fashion Week
What makes fashion shows exciting isn't just the clothes coming down the runway, but the whole scene, including the music. If you weren't able to make it to New York Fashion Week (okay, so most of us), Teen Vogue has the playlists to many shows and presentations here. Karl's most recent favorite, Azealia Banks, was on a couple of lists, and "Hands" by Alpine, which I've been playing a bunch lately, thumped while the BCBG models walked.

Milan Fashion Week Highlight: Iceberg
Iceberg went seventies rocker for their Fall 2012 collection, and though it's not as if this hasn't been done before, there were some qualities that injected some freshness. There were perfectly executed skinnies, some with gold buttons going up the sides, some in leather, and some in sequins. Speaking of the sequins, they also covered short, slinky dresses and mini skirts in an ikat-esque pattern. There was plenty of fur fit for rock royalty, and my personal favorite was the mohair that even Kurt Cobain would be jealous of - it was amazing on graphic sweaters and a long sleeved, black and white graphic mini dress. Psychedelic prints, outerwear, and cat-eye sunglasses rounded out the rock 'n roll story.

London Fashion Week Highlight: Mother of Pearl
Mother of Pearl is a label with a style that is youthful without losing its refinement. Designer Maia Norman incorporates both sporty and artsy styles in her collections - which isn't surprising, since she's a surfer in her downtime and artist Damien Hirst's other half. The Fall 2012 collection borrowed prints from painter Fred Tomaselli, and it's amazing to see how smoothly Norman converted the works of art from a 2-D canvas to fabric to fit a human body (Google "Fred Tomaselli" to see what I mean).

London Fashion Week Highlight: Matthew Williamson
Matthew Williamson could teach a course on color. Each season, he incorporates color in a way that is attention-grabbing but not overpowering. Take the fur coat in the first look down the runway: gray, sky blue, aqua, and fox brown and it doesn't look as distasteful as it may sound - in fact, it's a standout piece in this collection. Square sequins placed on garments in geometric patterns, along with gold slacks and leather pants, felt super modern. The eveningwear felt fresh and contemporary, with lace overlay, a cool flame-like print, and bright blues and corals.

Map of Rap: a Guide to Rapper's Names
Pop Chart Lab just created this "Map of Rap," an illustrated (and kind of funny) look at different rap names in the biz. There are categories, such as "Improper Use of K" including OutKast, "Three Letters" including NWA, and "Lil," which goes without explaining. It's pretty huge, so click here to view it in its entirety.
Nick Campbell Eyewear
The Australian eyewear label Nick Campbell borrows shapes from the fifties and sixties for its classic, easy-to-wear sunglasses. I'm in love with the specs with the "Cookies and Cream" frames. The glasses are handmade and have a lifetime quality guarantee, and there are a couple styles for tintless prescription glasses as well. See more here (click).

I Think I Love You
I love a good t-shirt: nothing to adjust or tug at, nothing drapey to worry about, nothing too tight (ideally), and can be worn so many ways. I also love a t-shirt with a twist, like the one above from Topshop. And, I love that the twist has a twist. Twist 1: this is a lace tee, not your average cotton American Apparel variety. Twist 2: this lace isn't your typical girly lace, but grid-like, geometric lace. It's cute, but interesting and modern, and I'd love this with jeans and moto boots, a feminine A-line skirt and ballet flats, or worn to work with a pencil skirt and oxford heels.

London Fashion Week Highlight: Temperley London
Temperley London designer Alice Temperley described her Fall 2012 collection as "polished folk," and with the mix of Russian-bohemian and luxe details, she got it completely right. The bold colors on the maxi dress in the first look caught my eye right away, but the gold accents that followed gave an opulence to the collection. A-line skirts and lace lent a slight youthfulness, and it's worth mentioning how perfectly the accessories were styled: the large fur hats elevated each look; chunky, contrasting jewelry looked rich, not distracting; and gold tasseled belts helped maintain a cohesiveness throughout.
